KOMPAKAR 1ST MALAYSIAN ICT COMPANY RATED AT CMMI LEVEL 5

Monday August 8, 2005

Petaling Jaya - Kompakar Inc Bhd, a fully integrated ICT solutions provider, announced today that it is the first Malaysian ICT company to be Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Level 5 rated. Two of Kompakar Inc Bhd subsidiries Kompakar eBIZ Sdn Bhd and Kompakar eHealth Tech Sdn Bhd have been rated CMMI Level 5 recently.

With the coveted CMMI Level 5 rating, Kompakar is now listed on the World Directory and recognised as a World-Class Software Development Organisation.

The CMMI is the most widely recognised global standard and is seen as the quality benchmark in the software development industry. CMMI is developed by Software Engineering Institute, Carnegie Mellon University.

“I hope today’s event will encourage more local MSC-status companies to instill a performance driven culture by encouraging the companies to continuously improve their quality & productivity by using structured internationally recognised process improvement framework such as SEI CMMI,” said Datuk Dr Mohamed Arif Nun, Chief Executive Officer of Multi media Development Corporation (MDC).

Kompakar embarked on the CMMI Level 5 journey in 2004 as a participating company of The Software Process Improvement Programme launched by MDC.

"With this accreditation, we hope to enhance our clients' competitiveness and efficiency by delivering innovative technology and services that reach out to the community," YAM Tunku Dato' Seri Shahabuddin bin Tunku Besar Burhanuddin, Executive Chairman of Kompakar said.

Speaking during the CMMI Level 5 Rating Ceremony today Tunku Shahabuddin added that the CMMI is a process improvement method that provides a set of best practices that addresses productivity, performance, costs and stakeholder satisfaction.

Organisations are aided in improving their performance, and collaborate with external stakeholders to manage their expectations. Other areas that are addressed by the CMMI are the provision of competitive world-class products and services, as well as the use of common, integrated and improved processes for systems and software.

"As more companies compete for the IT software development and services outsourcing market, CMMI certification becomes an increasingly important competitive tool" Tunku Shahabuddin said, adding that companies today want to deliver their products faster, better and cheaper, at the same time raise their productivity gains, while customers are looking for quality assurance at competitive cost.

According to the Dod Data & Analysis Centre for Software, companies that utilise the CMMI reduce their development costs by 73%, reworks and average schedule length is also reduced by 96% and 37% respectively.

By using the CMMI, these organisations also reduce their post release defects by 80%, and the return on investment is a solid 21 to 1.

The standard puts emphasis on both systems engineering and software engineering and the integration necessary to build and maintain the total product. The CMMI consists of Five Levels measuring the level of process management and improvement within an organisation.

Furthermore, both customer and employee satisfaction increased with the rising maturity levels, planning was more accurate, product quality increased, and defects were detected and identified much earlier.
